FAIRFIELD, Conn. Chairs Sandye Mann and Bill Sapone are hard at work with the Penfield Reef Lighthouse Committee trying to get the Fairfield landmark under town control. You can help them reach their goal while treating yourself to a night out this week.
The committee will hold a benefit cocktail party Thursday, Sept. 15, at the Penfield Pavilion. The evening will feature hors doeuvres, drinks and a silent auction. All money received will go to the committees fund to purchase the Penfield Reef Lighthouse next month.
The lighthouse has stood about a mile off Fairfields shores since 1874. Earlier this year the federal government announced it would auction off the building at the end of October. Since then the committee has tried to raise money through private donations for Fairfields bid. If Fairfield wins the auction, it will control the lighthouse, and be responsible for its upkeep.
Tickets for Thursdays fundraiser start at the base level of $25, but the committee is accepting donations of all amounts. If Fairfields bid in the auction does not win, the committee will return all donations. For more information or to make a contribution, visit the committees website.
Do you think the town should try to buy back the Penfield Reef Lighthouse?
