Parents sometimes have trouble communicating with their kids. And when their children have social and communication disorders, the task can be even more difficult. To help parents, Stephanie Madrigal is coming to the Wilton Library on Aug. 25.
Madrigal creates and develops therapeutic and educational products for kids from age 5 to adulthood with social learning disabilities and social-cognitive deficits for Social Thinking. One of her products is "Superflex: A Superhero Social Thinking Curriculum," a comic book that provides educators and parents' ways to teach children with Asperger syndrome and autism the social skills they need.
Next Wednesday she will be presenting "Social Thinking across the Home and School Day" twice. First to the people who work at the Wilton Library as part of staff development and then at 7 p.m. she will speak to the public.
SPED*NET Wilton and Wilton Public Schools are sponsoring the event with the library. Admission is free, but registration is encouraged because space is limited.
