Four more high-speed accidents have occurred in the past two weeks at the Pudding Street/Taconic Intersection.
How much more delay will occur before an overpass will move to the top of the priority list for the governor, our elected officials and the DOT?
I am glad to hear that there has been so much talk about this need for an overpass lately but seeing will be believing.
Our former State Senator Terry Gipson understood its' importance. I recall his public meeting with the DOT at the Putnam Valley Firehouse with our other elected officials. Many residents attended and things seemed to be going forward.
Gipson secured the necessary funding for the state to do a detail study of the intersection and he shared the drawings/surveys at the firehouse meeting. But what happened?
Senator Gipson was replaced. Progress stopped. Funds were reallocated and residents were returned to a familiar place.....dreading in some small way every time a school bus has to cross through traffic moving at 60, 70 and 80 mph.
Now, Senator Serino has indicated she wants the project to go forward again. No more studies should be necessary....only one is really needed. Drive to Pudding Street any day at 4 or 5 p.m. and head across the Taconic. If you make it, build the overpass.
