To the editor:

March 10 is our region’s biggest charitable event of the year, Fairfield County’s Giving Day. The goal is to raise awareness of nonprofit organizations and to raise money in 24 hours through online donations to 400 local nonprofits.

As executive director of the Pequot Library in the Southport section of Fairfield, I encourage everyone age 18-plus to visit FCGives.org throughout March 10 and give to any of the registered nonprofits, including ours. Pequot Library stays open and “free as air to all” through donations like yours.

We hope to raise $10,000 that will go directly to the purchase of books, movies, technology and to support our 750 annual programs for all ages - author visits, movies, story times for kids, music, viewing of rare books from our special collections, art exhibitions, huge townwide community events and so much more. Last year, we welcomed more than 103,000 visitors to the Pequot Library.

You can select nonprofits by town, cause or name, and donate as little as $10. Every donation adds up. Giving Day encourages every community member to “give where you live.”

Bank of America is the lead sponsor.

Please remember to visit FCGives.org March 10 and give to your favorite local nonprofits.

Heather-Marie Montilla, executive director Pequot Library
