To the Editor:
Sewer problems are hardly a glamorous subject, but they are a nuts and bolts issue for many residents of Yorktown. Approximately 1,000 homeowners have been awaiting hookup to Yorktowns Hallocks Mill Sewage plant for years. While they wait, they pay taxes to the sewer district, all the while also paying thousands of dollars to maintain failing septic systems.
Terrence Murphy has done nothing to alleviate this problem. As members of the Yorktown Town Board, he and his colleagues are guilty of extreme neglect in failing to obtain the expansion permits required to hook up these 1,000 homes.
Although Mr. Murphy is only halfway through his term on the Yorktown Town Board, he has turned his attention to running for the Westchester County Board of Legislators, challenging incumbent Mike Kaplowitz. Mr. Kaplowitz has been a voice for fiscal fairness and responsibility for the people of Westchesters 4th district since 1998. He has proven himself to be honest, approachable, and responsive to his constituents. In contrast, Mr. Murphy isnt even responsive to the needs of the residents of his hometown. That does not bode well for the people of the 4th district (Yorktown, Somers, New Castle) if he is elected County Legislator.
Sincerely,
Celeste Theis
