WESTPORT, Conn. The following letter was submitted by Westport resident Elaine Whitney, a Democrat on the Board of Education.
Westport is very fortunate to have Janis Collins, a seasoned business executive and currently chair of the Parks & Recreation Commission, as a candidate for the Board of Finance.
I have known Janis for almost a decade, and in a variety of contexts: as fellow PTA leaders, public officials, Rotarians, and even tennis teammates. Across all of these roles, Janis has consistently demonstrated leadership, integrity, and collegiality. And she has been dedicated to giving back to the Westport community ever since she moved here.
Janis has proven her constructiveness as a public official as both a member and Chair of the Parks & Recreation Commission. She has earned the respect of her colleagues on the commission as well as that of her fellow public officials and the members of the public with whom she interfaces.
In particular, Janis stands out in her commitment to collaboration and in her communication skills. For a number of initiatives, I have personally observed her proactively reach out to multiple constituencies with interests in the matter at hand and then work to forge a viable solution which considered and balanced the various points of view.
Professionally, Janis has substantial experience as a senior business executive, having been a Managing Director at JP Morgan and a Partner at KPMG Consulting. In those roles, she utilized her financial expertise and also demonstrated her ability to effectively meet the needs of diverse and demanding clients.
Westport is currently facing serious financial challenges, and it is critical that we elect individuals of Janis' experience, caliber, and work ethic to address them effectively.
Please join me in voting for Janis Collins for the Board of Finance on Nov. 8.
