Legion U-13 Sweeps Trumbull

The Stamford American Legion U-13 team swept Trumbull in three games over the weekend to improve to 12-2 as it prepares for the upcoming playoffs.

Stamford defeated Trumbull, 8-1, in the opener. James Gronberg pitched a complete game, striking out 11 batters and allowing only one hit. Gronberg and Kevin Stone ripped two hits apiece, while Johnny Spoto, Jeremy Benjamin and Eddie Meizels had key hits in the victory.

Stamford swept a doubleheader on Sunday, 4-1 and 8-1. In the first game, Luke Dawson went the distance on the mound allowing only one hit, while striking out seven. Dawson also lead the offense with two hits, while Peter Horn, Stefan Uka and Tyrell St. John had key run-scoring hits. Jeremy Benjamin and Johnny Spoto played solid defense in the middle of the infield.

Horn also went the distance in the second game, surrendering five hits and fanning four. Uka and Spoto were solid at third and shortstop, making a combined seven putouts to seal the win. Dawson lined two hits, while Gronberg, Horn, Ryan Kulish and Stone had key run scoring hits to blow the game open in the fifth inning. Stamford scored six runs on six hits too put the game away.
