Multiple officers responded to a home on the 700 block of Kames Hill Road in West Hempfield Township around 6:35 a.m. on Thursday, April 9, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
The arrest warrant was tied to a burglary investigation in which the suspect allegedly stole guns from another home, police said.
The man refused repeated commands to exit the residence, prompting officials to request the Lancaster County Special Emergency Response Team (SERT) due to the high likelihood he was armed, investigators explained.
Authorities said SERT members also issued multiple commands, but the man did not comply.
Around 10 a.m., SERT entered the home and found the man dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, troopers said.
No shots were fired by law enforcement during the incident, police confirmed.
The Lancaster County Coroner’s Office is assisting with the investigation. The man’s identity has not been released.
Kames Hill Road was closed during the incident and reopened shortly before 10:40 a.m., authorities said. Police added that there is no threat to the public.
Details about the man’s life were not immediately available. His loved ones are invited to share information with Daily Voice by emailing [email protected].
