Spinella said he has been drawing since he was a little kid growing up in New York and was always involved in some kind of art project.
"In high school, I took as many art classes as I could. It was one of the classes that I liked going to every day," he said. "After high school, I attended the Art Institute of Philadelphia, where I graduated with a degree in visual communications/graphic design. Right after graduating I landed a job with a graphic design studio here in Poughkeepsie while at the same time continuing to paint and draw and displaying my work throughout the Hudson Valley over the years."
For the past couple of years, he said, he has been experimenting with abstract art and the free and relaxed feeling that he gets from it. He also is concentrating on the consistency and volume of the paint that is put down on the canvas.
"Almost all my paintings are done without using a brush. The paint mixes on the canvas into a flow where realism meets abstraction," he added. "I feel my paintings are exciting and refreshing. I want to share them with the world."
Spinella's painting will be on display at the library, 488 Freedom Plains Road (Route55), Suite 109, throughout March.
