Kyle Lamar Lane, 33, of Reading, was arrested following a Berks County Drug Task Force investigation into methamphetamine trafficking, the Berks County District Attorney's Office said.

Investigators obtained a sealed search warrant Monday, July 6, for the second- and third-floor apartments at 351 S. Fifth St. in Reading, as well as Lane's person and electronic devices, according to the DA's office.

While conducting surveillance later that day, detectives saw Lane leave the residence and walk into the 500 block of Bingaman Street. When officers approached him, Lane allegedly fled on foot, tossing a cellphone and approximately one pound of methamphetamine that field-tested positive during the chase, authorities said.

A search of the residence turned up approximately three additional pounds of suspected methamphetamine, packaging materials, two digital scales with residue, a razor blade, a scooper, and other equipment commonly used to package bulk narcotics for street-level sales, investigators said. Detectives also seized $10,543 in cash believed to be proceeds from drug trafficking.

Authorities estimate the methamphetamine seized in the investigation has a street value of about $54,000.

Lane was charged with felony possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, as well as misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Preliminary arraignment was held before Magisterial District Judge Priscilla Campos, who set bail at $200,000, according to the DA's office.

"This case reflects the continued commitment and teamwork of the Berks County Drug Task Force in combating the distribution of methamphetamine throughout our community," Berks County District Attorney John T. Adams said. "Seizing bulk quantities of methamphetamine, along with the tools used to process and package these dangerous narcotics, disrupts drug trafficking operations and helps make Berks County a safer place to live and work."
