Kent Library Offers Technology Workshops

KENT LAKES, N.Y. -- The Kent Public Library will offer a series of technology-related workshops and classes during April; the workshops are guided by the responses to a survey filled out by more than 100 people last fall.

Frank Chianca will teach Android Smartphone Basics on Thursday, April 14, at 10:30 a.m. His workshop will cover startup, settings, apps, call settings, ringtones and voicemail, texting, and how to use the camera.

Walter Dauerer will teach iPhone Smartphone Basics on Thursday, April 28, from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. A workshop for the smartphone latecomer, it will cover dialing with keypad, from contacts, favorites and recents, managing old calls, communicating with Facetime, both audio and video, social media accounts, the control center, quick access to flashlight, timer, calculator and camera, apps and navigation of the App Store, watching movies and much more.

The workshop is essentially for the iPhone 4/4S, 5, 5C and 5S running beyond iOS 7. Earlier editions do not have all of the capabilities covered in the workshop.

Sign up for either the iPhone or the Android smartphone class, depending on the kind of smartphone you use.

Sergio Zygmunt will teach Improve Your Computer's Performance on Saturday, April 16, from 12:30-2 p.m. If your computer is slow and you would like to make it fast yourself, attend this class.

All classes and workshops are free, but registration is required. Go to kentlibrary.org and click on events and calendar to register, or call the library at 845-225-8585.

The library is at 17 Sybil's Crossing, off Route 52, in Kent Lakes.
