BEDFORD, N.Y. People traveling to downtown Katonah will soon be able to stroll the streets a little longer without having to worry about moving their car. A proposal to change the Katonah parking time limit from one hour to two hours was approved at the Bedford Town meeting on Tuesday.
The Katonah Chamber of Commerce recommended changing a number of monitored time limit parking spaces in downtown Katonah to accommodate shoppers and patrons who would be in the area for more than an hour.
Town Planner Jeff Osterman said that the area in question would include Edgemont Road, Bedford Road, both sides of Allen Place, Katonah Aveue, and Parkway in downtown Katonah.
This does not affect any of the special parking regulation for example handicap regulation spaces, Osterman said. Many handicap spaces have a one hour limit.
Van Kozelka director of Katonah Village Library, addressed the board during the public comment section of the meeting. Kozelka wanted the proposal to allow the spaces near the library to remain at one hour parking.
Kozelka said that there are a great number of visitors to the Katonah Village Library every day who come in to do things like leave books, pickup books or items they have returned or browse for a time and check out items. Usually this takes less than one hour.
Kozelka requested that around 8 spots on Bedford road in front of the library and five spots on Parkway, which is on the side of the library, remain at one hour parking.
The town board said that this would be taken in to consideration since they are able to subtract from the proposal, but not add to it.
