KATONAH, N.Y.--More than two hundred people came out to enjoy the Katonah Village Library when it reintroduced Sunday hours last weekend. The library recently received a large anonymous donation, and it used the money to augment this years budget, keeping the library open Sundays from 1 pm to 5 pm.
We feel like the community wants access to the library. It's one of the most important things we can do for them, said Library Director Van Kozelka.
During the week, the librarys average daily turnout ranges from 400 to 600 people, said Kozelka, but having Sunday hours is important as well.
We always thought Sunday hours were really good because some people, for one reason or another cant make it during the week, so having additional hours helps it to be available to people, said Kozelka.
In January 2011, library funding was cut by 10 percent, but the librarys Board of Trustees figured out a way to keep Sunday hours in the years budget. However, there was not enough in the budget surplus to continue this in 2012. Thanks to the librarys recent influx of cash, this is no longer the case.
This Sunday the library will see the recommencement of Sunday programs. The library will host the years first installment for the Katonah Poetry series, which will feature a reading by acclaimed American poet Alan Shapiro.
