Jose Serrano Charged In Poughkeepsie Generator Theft

A 40-year-old man was arrested after police said he stole a generator from a Dutchess County home and pulled a weapon when confronted by the victim.

Jose Serrano, 40, was arrested on Friday, July 10, in connection with an incident in Poughkeepsie on Wednesday, July 8, the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department announced. 

According to the department, on Wednesday, police received a report of a stolen generator from a residence. The victim said he saw a man making off with his generator and other items and went to confront him.

However, the suspect pulled out a bladed weapon and then ran from the area with the stolen property, police said.

Officers later found Serrano in the area and began investigating the incident, according to the department. 

Days later, on Friday, Serrano was found near Malcolm X Park and taken into custody. He was charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, second-degree menacing, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. 

He was arraigned in the Poughkeepsie City Court and then remanded to Dutchess County Jail.
