Testa made the announcement Monday in front of a large crowd at the Winery at St. George in Mohegan Lake.
“It has been an honor to represent the citizens of the Town of Cortlandt, City of Peekskill and Town of Yorktown for the past three years,” Testa said. “Taking a bipartisan approach and working with County Executive [Robert] Astorino, we have been able to bring a common sense, fiscally responsible focus to Westchester County government."
He cited that bipartisan work on crafting the 2013 county budget, working with the Democratic majority and fellow Republican Astorino as a big reason for seeking another term.
“Astorino and I came into office together in 2010, and over the three budgets that have been passed since then we have been able to not only prevent any tax increase but also have reduced the county tax rate over that time,” said Testa. “We have also reduced the size of county government by 15 percent."
Testa also cited his work to acquire funds for infrastructure improvements to county properties such as Blue Mountain Reservation and Sportsman’s Center, George’s Island Park, the Main Street rehabilitation, and resurfacing and rehabilitating Route 202 and South Division Street in Peekskill and Cortlandt, as well as upgrades to the county wastewater treatment plant in Peekskill.
Testa has already received the endorsement of Astorino, who attended Monday’s event.
"John Testa has been a strong and unwavering defender of taxpayers,” said Astorino. “His leadership, dedication and common sense approach to county government serves the people of Peekskill, Cortlandt and Yorktown well and I urge them to re-elect John this November.”
