POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — Poughkeepsie resident John J. Ackermann died on Monday, April 25. He was 83.
A native of Yonkers, Ackermann graduated with a bachelor's degree from Manhattan College and a master;s in education degree from Fordham University.
He taught for many years at Lincoln Hall, Mahopac Central School District and briefly at Our Lady of Lourdes High School.
He married Marjorie M. Duesel in 1959 in Yonkers.
He is survived by his wife; children Barbara Ricciardi and her husband, John; John Ackermann Jr. and his wife, Lisa; Christine Haupt and her husband, Michael; Stephen Ackermann and his wife, Kathryn; Patricia Grassi and her husband, Frank; Joseph Ackermann and his wife, Lily; Paul Ackermann and his wife, Amber; grandchildren Gabriella, Maria, Daniel, Luke, Sophia, Gia, Nicholas and Nora and a sister, Patricia Smith.
He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Elizabeth.
Visitation is Sunday, May 1, from 2-6 p.m. at the William G. Miller & Son Funeral Home Inc., 371 Hooker Avenue, in Poughkeepsie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 2, from 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 231 Church St., in Poughkeepsie.
Burial will follow at the family plot in St. Peter's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to St. Mary’s Church in Poughkeepsie.
