WESTPORT, Conn. – John M. DeCola, a Westport native, died on Dec. 25 at Danbury Hospital. He was 84.
A resident of Sandy Hook, DeCola was a longtime employee of the Edwards Company of Norwalk.
He was born July 4, 1928, in Westport to Michele and Angelina Gillardi DeCola. He graduated from Staples High School in 1947. He was married to Christina Hudson DeCola.
For many years, DeCola played sports in the Norwalk Industrial Leagues. In the 1980s, he was named Westport Sportsman of the Year. He was a member of the Oak Hill Golf Association in Norwalk. He was also employed by Jared Manufacturing as purchasing agent.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Michelle Morrison, of Southbury, Conn.; a brother, Roger DeCola, of Venice, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three sisters, Elizabeth DeCola Esposito, Grace DeCola Chimanto and Helen DeCola Sanford.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Saturday, at St. Rose of Lima Church in Newtown. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Visistation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Honan Funeral Home in Newtown.
