Born in Stamford, deGarmo graduated from Stamford High School. She trained as a nurse at the Greenwich Hospital School of Nursing.
She and her husband moved to Maine in 1964. They rebuilt an old inn there into a home. She enjoyed writing, antiques and decorating renovated older houses.
DeGarmo is survived by her son, Sherburne and his wife Barbara deGarmo; daughters Marjorie deGarmo, and Joan Caird and her husband Robert Caird; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a nephew and his wife.
She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley deGarmo, and her parents, Harry and Sara Smith Askew.
A memorial service and burial will take place this summer.
