Jeffrey Phillips Admits To Assaulting Cop

A 37-year-old Minotola man pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer and leaving the scene of a crash last year, authorities said.

Jeffrey Phillips faces 18 months in prison per the terms of a plea agreement, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said.

On Thursday, Aug. 7, Hammonton police responded to Hammonton Train Station for reports of a man, Jeffrey Phillips attempting to steal an e-bike, prosecutors said. Phillips fled from the scene when he saw police but was apprehended, authorities said.

On Tuesday, Sept. 30, troopers responded to a crash at Route 40 and Tuckahoe Road in Buena Vista Township, authorities said. While on scene conducting their investigation, officers were approached by Phillips, who admitted he was the driver of the vehicle and had fled the scene of the accident before returning, authorities said.
