Jamie Lynn Aughenbaugh, 22, was behind the wheel of a Toyota Corolla when she was involved in a collision with a Chevrolet Tahoe on Route 206 on Tuesday, Feb. 3, just after 2:50 p.m. in Flanders, according to Meghan Knab, a spokesperson for the Morris County Prosecutor's Office.
Both drivers and were taken to Morristown Medical Center, where Aughenbaugh died. The cause remains under investigation, Knab said.
Aughenbaugh was a recent UCONN graduate and former Newton High School wrestler. Additional details in the crash were not immediately clear.
GoFundMe organizer James Perrette remembered Jamie as "a bright and beautiful light—a young woman whose kindness, warmth, and genuine compassion touched everyone fortunate enough to know her."
Aughenbaugh recently graduated from UConn in Spring 2025, where her LinkedIn profile indicates she studied mathematics. She previously graduated from Newton High School, where she was a wrestler.
“Through her work at the Jefferson House and The Beacon, Jamie gave so much of herself to others, always leading with empathy, generosity, and an uplifting spirit,” Perrette wrote. “Having recently graduated from UConn, she was just beginning to build a life filled with dreams, purpose, and endless potential.”
Her death has shaken the community, the organizer said.
“These funds will go directly toward medical bills, funeral costs, and ongoing support for the family, helping to ease their burden so they can focus on healing and cherishing the memory of their loved one,” the campaign states. “We are beyond grateful to be part of such a compassionate and caring community,” Perrette added. “From the depths of our hearts — thank you.”
