Hermann was elected to the Common Council of Poughkeepsie representing the 8th Ward in 2013 and was reelected in 2015.
He received his B.A. from Western Kentucky University in Journalism and pursued a career in publishing. Hermann and his family moved New York in 2009 where he began his political career with the Democratic Party while pursuing his Master’s Degree at Marist College in Public Administration. He became a small business owner, an adjunct professor at Marist College, and was the Executive Director of the LGBTQ Center in Kingston. He was an active member of the Christ Episcopal Church.
He is survived by his husband, Matthew McNamara; daughter, Roxanne Hermann-McNamara; sister, Christina Smith; and brothers, Jonathan and Brett Hermann.
