It was a plan that ended with him spending more than a year in prison.
The Maryland man who jumped the gate of a Pennsylvania penitentiary will spend time behind those bars after being busted attempting to smuggle contraband into the facility for an inmate.
Hampton-Smith, an Aberdeen resident, was sentenced to 15 months in prison for conspiring with an inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution, Lewisburg, in Union County.
According to prosecutors, on Aug. 14, 2024, security officers at the facility spotted Hampton-Smith climbing the perimeter fence shortly after midnight.
Utilizing a thermal imaging device, security officers watched the defendant jump down onto prison grounds and place a backpack in a trash can near the facility’s basketball court.
Inside the bag? Vape pens, cell phones, cutting tools, and synthetic marijuana.
Now, Hampton-Smith will serve 15 months behind the same bars he broke into.
