The incident happened near 28 South Main St. in Spring Valley at around 1:22 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 14, when officers responded to a report of suspicious activity, the Spring Valley Police Department said on Monday, Aug. 24.
There, officers found a victim who said a man he knew had displayed a knife and pressed it against his throat before punching him, causing him to fall to the ground, police said.
The suspect then took about $200 in cash from the victim's wallet and fled, the department added.
While speaking with investigators, the victim also told police that the same man had robbed him on a previous occasion, though that incident had never been reported. Officers began searching the surrounding area and found the suspect, identified as Jairo Duque-Agustin, 26, who police said is undomiciled.
Duque-Agustin was arrested and charged in connection with the Aug. 14 incident with first-degree robbery, second-degree robbery, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Police also charged him with third-degree robbery in connection with the earlier alleged incident.
After his arrest, Duque-Agustin was arraigned in Spring Valley Justice Court before Judge Mellion, who set bail at $25,000 cash, $50,000 bond, or $75,000 partially secured bond. He was then taken to the Rockland County Jail.
