During their first week, eighth-graders used various tools and materials to create objects that expressed their personality and showcased their creativity.
Rossi said her students came up with their own ideas in the art studio, taking the first step in becoming artists. She hopes the eighth-graders will find their own artistic voice this semester.
“They were inspired by the nature of the materials,” she said. “Some students created works based on their experiences. Drawing emerged as a common medium but many students ventured into painting, collages and three-dimensional constructions to express their ideas.”
The art project experience is connected to the Studio Habits of Mind, which incorporates students’ ability to develop craft, engage and persist, envision, express, observe, reflect, stretch and explore and understand the arts community.
