CROTON-ON-HUDSONThe Duck Pond saw some action Thursday, as an airboat went into the water and helped clear loads of invasive water vegetation from its edges. This is in addition to the sub-surface aerators that have been burbling oxygen into the ponds water.
We removed seven or eight yards, said village parks foreman Art Neff. The pond will be replanted with more vegetation, to form a vegetative buffer, said those involved in the project. The vegetative buffer should help erosion and also help filter some of the runoff which the pond receives from Riverside Avenue and neighboring yards.
The natural pond is being restored by the village, after legwork by the Duck Pond Gorge Neighborhood Work Group began looking for ways to restore the pond without pesticides or herbicides. The Clean-Flo system, responsible for the aeration and natural enzymes plan, is being implemented by Lake Savers and the village Department of Public Works.
