STAMFORD, Conn. A Mexican man living in Stamford pleaded guilty to illegally re-entering the country in U.S. District Court in Hartford on Tuesday, a statement from U.S. Attorney David B. Feins office said.
The statement said: In September 2004, Antelmo Mojica Ortiz, 48, was convicted of second-degree assault. He was deported to his native country of Mexico in November 2005. In 2008, he was found in Texas and was once again deported. Ortiz was convicted in Stamford for second-degree threatening in April.
Sentencing has been scheduled for March 8, at which time he faces a maximum term of 20 years and a fine of up to $250,000.
In order to reapply for admission to the U.S., Ortiz would have had to obtain consent from the attorney general or the secretary for the Department of Homeland Security.
