Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams has pulled one batch of its Passion Fruit Dreamsicle Ice Cream Bars from shelves after an ingredient mix-up introduced allergens not listed on the label.
The voluntary recall was announced Monday, Nov. 17, after the company determined that a crunch topping used in a separate product was accidentally blended into a specific batch of bars during manufacturing.
The topping contains wheat and soy, which are not declared on the packaging. The Food and Drug Administration published the notice Tuesday, Nov. 18.
Jeni’s said people who are allergic or severely sensitive to wheat or soy could face serious or life-threatening reactions if they eat the product. No illnesses or injuries have been reported.
The nationwide recall affects cartons labeled with batch code 25-210, which is printed on the top of the box. This is the only lot included in the recall.
The company explained that the error occurred when an allergen-containing topping was inadvertently introduced to the production line.
Jeni’s added that the impacted bars were distributed to grocery stores across the US, and customers who purchased them should return them to the place of purchase for a refund.
Shoppers can contact Jeni’s at 614-488-3224 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. (ET) Monday through Friday or by emailing [email protected]
