A resident was walking in a wooded area in the Whitesboro section of Middle Township when they discovered the skull, Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland, and Middle Township Police Chief Tracey Super said.
Law enforcement conducted a search of the area and skeletal remains believed to be those of an adult were located and recovered. A positive identification has not been made, authorities said.
The incident remains under investigation, authorities said.
