PEEKSKILL Irish Eyes will be smiling on the city when the Hudson Valley Irish Fest returns later this month. The Third Annual Hudson Valley Irish Fest will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Riverfront Green Park, and celebrates the positive values of the rich Irish American culture and heritage alive in the Hudson Valley today.
This years event is dedicated to the 10th Anniversary of 9/11. In memory of the heroes and victims of 9/11, organizers will salute members of the Armed Forces, police, fire and rescue workers. Performances by several top Irish recording artists and bands, including Jamesons Revenge, Celtic Cross, Mary Courtney & John Redmond and others, along with Tim Murphy performing the stirring Firefighters Creed. The areas finest Irish step-dancers and massed pipe bands will again be perfoming.
Vendors and exhibitors will provide culinary specialties, Irish literature, media and cultural crafts for all to experience and enjoy. The childrens area boasts pony rides, face painting, crafts and more. Admission is $10 for adults and children 12 and under are admitted free. Proceeds from the festival, a not-for-profit charitable organization, support the Hudson Valley Irish Center at the Red School House in Verplanck, as well as establishment of Irish heritage, literary and media sections in the local libraries. The Hudson Valley Irish Fest Inc. is co-sponsored by the Division 18 Peekskill Ancient Order of Hibernians & Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians and is a member of the Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber of Commerce.
