Hudson River Invades Irvington Riverfront

IRVINGTON, N.Y. – Residents ventured out to the Irvington waterfront adjacent to the village train station Sunday morning to witness the Hudson River as it rolled over the sea wall to flood areas of the business district and park.

The Hudson overflowed as a result of Tropical Storm Irene’s remnants, which could not be contained by the barriers. Restaurants and other businesses along the riverfront used sand bags to keep the water from seeping into their buildings.

“I’ve only lived here for a year, so I’ve never seen the river do this before,” said local Amy Farrell. “It’s a good thing the storm let up a little. The tide is going back now.”
