High School Theater Awards Tonight in Peekskill

The best and brightest stars of Westchester’s high school theater will be honored tonight at the Paramount Center for the Arts when the venue hosts the 2011 High School Theater Awards, presented by the Helen Hayes Youth Theatre.

The Peekskill High School Drama Club spring production of Suessical, a musical based on tales by Dr. Seuss, has received two nominations.

Miles Jay Harvey, a fifth grade student at Hillcrest Elementary School, was nominated for his performance in the role of Jo Jo and the team of Kirsten Berger and Nat Chau was nominated for Outstanding Graphic Design for  the eye-catching posters and programs made for the show.

Nat Chau is a Peekskill High School senior and Kirsten Berger is the parent of Gabriel Berger, a Woodside Elementary student who also performed in the production.

Katie Schmidt Feder directed and choreographed Suessical in her first year with the Peekskill High School Drama Club; the musical director was Brian Zane.

Competition this year saw 40 high schools participating in the Metro Awards representing Westchester County, Rockland County, and Bergen County, New Jersey.
