Gerald Schramek, Putnam County's chief of investigations, issued the resignation just weeks after the county settled a complaint by paying $35,000 to Kenneth DeFreitas, who said he was beaten by county police while cuffed and shackled, LoHud.com said.

District Attorney Adam Levy did not say if Schramek's resignation was part of a deal, in accordance with the settlement, LoHud.com reported.
