Herbert Joseph Kufuor, 30, of Woodbridge, was arrested following a dangerous pursuit in Prince William County that began just before midnight on Friday, May 30, according to police.
Officers attempted to stop a vehicle near Dale Boulevard and Richmond Highway around 11:13 p.m., after the driver blew through several red lights, according to the Prince William County Police Department.
The driver, later identified as Kufuor, stopped initially but then put the vehicle in gear and drove over an officer’s foot as he sped off.
After that, the chase continued through closed traffic lanes where fire and rescue personnel were actively working, police said.
Six responders were nearly struck as the suspect blew through the scene, according to officials.
The vehicle eventually left the road, crashed through a fence, and came to rest in a creek bed. Kufuor then tried to run on foot but was caught by officers a short time later.
The injured officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police said. Suspected illegal drugs were also recovered from the vehicle.
No other injuries or damage were reported.
Kufuor was arrested on scene and is facing multiple charges that include:
- Four counts of attempted malicious wounding of emergency personnel;
- Assault & battery on law enforcement officer;
- DUI;
- Hit-and-run;
- Eluding;
- Reckless driving;
- Possession of schedule I/II drugs.
No details about bond information or his next court appearance have been released.
