Heat Wave Will Continue Through Thursday

Mamaroneck's elementary and high school students endured hazardous weather conditions Wednesday, and can expect more of the same Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures Wednesday reached a high of  92 degrees with a heat index of 95, but Mamaroneck High School sophomore Justin Francisco is convinced it was at least 100 degrees.

With limited air conditioned areas in each of Mamaroneck’s schools, students are in for another hot day when the temperature peaks near 94 degrees after 11 a.m. Thursday.

The National Weather Service has issued an air quality alert effective until 10 p.m. Wednesday and from 2 p.m. through 11 p.m. Thursday.

The low Thursday night will be 71 degrees with a chance of showers and thunderstorms, followed by a break in the heat Friday. The high then will be near 81 and it should be partly sunny with a chance of afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms. Friday's low will be around 62.
