Harrison Recreation Keeps Locals Cool

HARRISON, N.Y. -- High temperatures didn't keep members of the Harrison softball league off the field. Globe Op went up againt the United States Tennis Association Tuesday evening at the Louis M. Klein Middle School field and USTA first baseman Mike Floyd said he's seen worse.

"We've had hotter games than this," Floyd said. "But playing outfield in weather like this is the worst."

Floyd said that the heavy sun could make playing more difficult.

"I'd sometimes start to see blue spots while out in the field on the sunny days."

Globe Op played the USTA at 6:30 p.m. and other local games included Salon Posh/Village Tile against TAL International at 5:30 p.m. and Wilson Elser against The Big Dogs at 5:30 p.m. at the LMK school. The league also holds games at the West Harrison baseball fields at Silver Lake.

Some West Harrison games were called off Tuesday because of a lack of players.

Tuesday's temperatures reached a high of 93 degrees in Harrison and remained hot and humid for much of the day, according to the National Weather Service. The forecast calls for temperatures to dip into the 80s  -- 88 degrees on Wednesday and low 80s for the rest of the week -- with mostly sunny skies.
