HARRISON, N.Y. -- New Harrison Library Director Galina Chernykh took the facility one step further in her campaign to improve technology last week when the library started renting laptops to patrons.
The program started on the same day the library began allowing residents to rent Nooks or e-readers in an effort to increase interest and productivity throughout the town.
The refurbished Dell Latitude laptops are rented out to patrons from ages 18 and older with a library card for up to two hours and cannot leave the library. They are equipped with Windows XP and include Microsoft Office.
"There have been a lot of changes since Galina started with us," said Dan Briem, library clerk. "The Internet might be changing a lot of things, but people still need a place to access information."
Anyone interested in renting out a laptop can ask their availability at the library's front desk, where Briem oversees the operation.
