HARRISON, N.Y. The Harrison Public Library Foundation is preparing three renovation plans to present to the Town Board in September.
Board Executive Director Ross Halperin said the organization is hoping to form a public/private partnership with the town to make renovations to the library a reality. Halperin said his father, Richard Halperin, who passed away prematurely at the age of 53 in 2008 and whom the building is named after, would have wanted to help the community in this way.
My father loved Harrison and made a point to raise his family here," Halperin said. "Harrison is the only community in the surrounding area that hasnt modernized its Library facility, with the last renovation occurring in 1984. Given the private fundraising already undertaken, the citizens in place ready to raise more, and the recent appointment of a dynamic Library director, now is that once-in-a-generation time to step up and give Harrisons citizens the Library that they need and deserve.
Halperin said the new facility would have an enormous impact on the community with expanded programming, a dramatically enhanced childrens area, the creation of a dedicated Teen Center, a modernized Community Room, and enhanced services for business-people, job-seekers, senior citizens, and anyone just looking to learn or create.
Our Library Director (Galina Chernykh) has done an incredible job thus far, but she is constrained by the infrastructure," Halperin said. "The Library is a free resource that literally serves every single citizen in town. Were looking forward to presenting our architectural plans to the public, proposing an innovative public/private partnership, and raising substantially more funds from Harrisons individual and corporate citizens.
