When Daily Voice published a list of top-ranked Harrison High School students last month, as reported here, the names of about two dozen students were omitted from the article for space reasons.
Several proud parents contacted a Daily Voice reporter, understandably outraged. They pointed out that their children were recognized as Cum Laude (with praise) honorees for earning a grade-point average of 93 to 94.99. Not too shabby.
Daily Voice had published the names of students named Summa Cum Laude (with highest praise) for students earning a 98.00 or higher and Magna Cum Laude (with great praise) for students earning a 95.00-97.99 only.
So today, we're publishing the names of all Harrison High School Cum Laude honorees: Elyssa Alfieri, Jack Hochman, Alyssa Muto, Elisa Arcara, Tatsuki Iwasa, Sarah Navarra, Catherine DiRe, Katie Kramer, Julia Provino, Taylor Fabiani, Cynthia Lambertson, Sana Rahman, Rebecca Gerson, Maxine Lieblich, Akshat Sanghavi, Julia Goldstein, Noah Marks, Valerie Sprovieri, Emily Gunther, Angie Martinetti, David Sullivan, Erica Hassett, Matthew Mendelsohn, Katherine Vayo, Andrew Hirsh, Katherine Murabito and Paula Ventura.
Six years ago, the students of Harrison High School worked with the administrators and Board of Education members to develop a system that would not only reward the school’s valedictorian and salutatorian but a tiered system of honors as determined by a student’s cumulative weighted grade-point average.
