NORWALK, Conn. Two armed men robbed a South Norwalk liquor store in broad daylight Tuesday and escaped with a "significant amount of cash," Norwalk Police say. The duo came in to Cocchia's, located at 23 Ely Ave., at about 11:30 a.m. brandishing handguns and took money from both cash registers before quickly fleeing, according to an account given by the store's clerk to police.
Passersby said they had gotten into a gray or silver Chevy Impala, but police could not confirm that information. The robbery was reported by a third party, as the clerk first went down the road to report it to his brother at Cocchia's Norwalk Grape Company. The suspects were described as 6-foot-tall black men. No one was injured.
The store was also robbed Sept. 1. Just before 9 p.m. two young men came in and tried to buy liquor, but were asked to leave because they did not have identification. They came back and bought soda, then grabbed bills from the register when it opened and ran down Ely Avenue. Police canine officers searched for them unsuccessfully.
