NORWALK, Conn. The number of gunshots that rang out in South Norwalk on Saturday afternoon shocked even residents who are used to hearing the sound of gunfire, according to Rick Reardon, a seven-year resident of Quintard Avenue. Reardon thought he heard at least 20 shots fired at about 4 p.m., when families were out on the street. The shots came in waves, he said.
Reardon heard a few shots and didn't think anything about it. When the sounds resumed, he took a pet cat off the windowsill out of concern and said people were getting their children off the street.
Usually when a few shots are fired, people come out and chat on the street, he said. This time was different. "It wasn't a party atmosphere," he said.
