At 7:50 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 20, a man entered a restaurant on the 100 block of South Street, purchased a cup of coffee and announced a robbery using the Google Translate app, threatening to shoot the cashier if she didn't comply, Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr. said.

When the cashier ran away from the register, the suspect attempted to remove it, but was unable to take it, Miranda said. He then threw his coffee at the cashier and fled the business, heading eastbound on South Street, Miranda said. The suspect was last seen walking eastbound on Tichenor Street toward the area of Pennington Court, Miranda said.

The suspect is described as a Black man, wearing all black clothing, and a black face mask, Miranda said.
