“They’re coming in to stay warm,” said one poll worker, who preferred not to be named. “We got a big turnout from Highland and other places without power.” The poll worker added that voters came in steadily until 11 a.m., when workers were able to get their first break of the day. Scarlett Du’s daughter, Gina Sage, was taking a photo of her mother to congratulate her on voting for the first time in the United States. “I’m very excited, it’s her first time [coming to the polls] too,” Du said squeezing her daughter's hand. Rye resident Adrienne Mierzwa wrote on The Rye Daily Voice Facebook page, “Voted just after 7:00 a.m. at Damiano [Recreation Center]. Good turnout, but not crowded. Voting was easy, so get out there!” Another Rye resident, Lynn Ingrassias, wrote that when she voted at 7:40 a.m. at Damiano Recreation Center, she was surprised to see very few people at the polls.
