Even bad weather couldn't dampen the spirit of Wilton area business associates who turned out on the greens at Rock Ridge Country Club to compete for the coveted Wilton Cup at the Wilton Chamber of Commerce's annual Golf Classic.
A total of 60 golfers gathered in support of the May 23 event, sponsored by Reynolds & Rowell LLP for the 15th straight year. The many donated prizes included golf clubs, Master's paraphernalia, private golf lessons, a golf foursome at Rock Ridge Country Club, fine wine baskets and a yearlong cigar club membership.
The Wilton Cup trophy was, appropriately enough, awarded to Golf Digest's Bob Carney and Jeff Patterson. The cup will be engraved and displayed at their corporate headquarters in Wilton until next year's event, said Wilton Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Torie Clancy.
"Participants gathered to hit the links and mingle with Wilton's business community," Clancy said. And players were also awarded for their talent in the Closest to the Pin challenge.
Recognition was given to the tournament's major sponsors, including the Hole-in-one Sponsor, Bruce Bennett Nissan; the Putting Green Sponsor, Wilder Companies; the Driving Green Sponsor, Avalon Wilton; the On-the-Green Sponsor, Splash Car Wash of Wilton; the Golf Cart Sponsor, Open House Gifts; the Lunch Sponsor, Dr. Michael Crystal; the Cocktail Sponsor, People's United Bank; the Dinner Sponsor, Wilton Stop & Shop; the Hospitality Sponsor, Realty Seven; and the Wilton Cup Sponsor, Lucci Electric.
The golf outing is one of the chamber's top annual fundraisers. Players come from all over Fairfield County to network with some of Wilton's senior level executives and support the chamber's community initiatives, Clancy said.
