When the American Heart Association asked the Sun Products Corp. in Wilton to sponsor a learning session at an upcoming Go Red luncheon, Director of Corporate Affairs Kathryn Corbally said yes. But first she wanted to make sure her company would be teaching people to recognize and avoid the risks of heart disease.
There is a distinct lack of knowledge concerning heart health, said Corbally, a Westport resident. Heart disease doesnt need to be the No. 1 killer of anyone in the United States.
The luncheon organizers agreed with the healthy living message. As a result, Sun Products, whose products include Wisk and All detergents, is sponsoring the luncheons third learning session, Own Your Life: Authoring a Healthy Legacy. The presentation will focus on empowering women to take control of their heart health.
Unlike cancer, we know the causes of heart disease. And in many of the cases, they are often preventable, said Corbally. Many women arent taking the proper steps to protect their health, Corbally said. That includes her own family. Weve been fortunate not to suffer heart disease in my family, but that is more luck than healthy heart management, said Corbally.
Sun Products formed in 2008 and became involved with the Go Red campaign in 2010. Corbally said educating woman about living healthier made sense for the company because women are its primary demographic. That first years participation also coincided with rebranding the Wisk product line in the original red packaging.
The Go Red luncheon will kick off at the Hyatt Regency Greenwich on March 24. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. Tickets are $200, and table sponsorships are available. The luncheon will include an appearance by Kim Fields, best known for her role as "Tootie" on the sitcom "The Facts of Life."
