Weather permitting, collection will continue through Dec. 31.

Plans call for leaf collection to cycle through all eight districts, then repeat.

While the department is attempting to get through one district per day, as more leaves fall and the piles get larger and heavier, doing so is not always possible.

Similarly, when leaf piles are smaller, collection may take place in more than one district per day. As a result, the leaf collection schedule changes frequently.

Only leaves and biodegradable bags should be placed at the curb, at least 10 feet from storm drains, the DPW notes.

Other items such as mums, grass, pumpkins, branches, and especially plastic bags, are detrimental to the equipment and to the ability of the DPW to complete collections in a timely manner.
