FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. Connecticuts Beardsley Zoo is welcoming two new guests to its 90th Birthday party. A pair of giant tortoises, Skipper and Professor, are visiting the Fairfield County zoo this summer.
The animals came to Bridgeport from Cameron Park Zoo in Waco, Texas. Skipper is a Galapagos tortoise, originally from the Galapagos Islands off the coast of South America. Professor is an Aldabra tortoise, a similarly large reptile from the Seychelles, in the Indian Ocean. Both animals are endangered, and weigh well over 400 pounds.
Not only are they a huge hit with visitors of all ages, they live incredibly long lives, said Zoo Director Gregg Dancho. In fact, Skipper is celebrating his 90th birthday this year, too.
You can see the two in their newly constructed habitat at Connecticuts Beardsley Zoo, 1875 Noble Ave., Bridgeport. Admission to the zoo is $12 for adults, $10 for children ages 3 to 12 and free for children under 3.
