Generac Power Systems is recalling about 149,400 portable generators, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission announced on Thursday, April 16. About 260 generators were sold in Canada.
The issue involves the carburetor, which can leak fuel when the generator is first filled with gasoline. The leak creates fire and burn hazards that could be deadly.
The recalled generators have an orange and black cover and are housed in a steel-tube frame with two wheels. The brand name "Generac" and the unit type appear on the side panel, while the model and serial number are printed on a label attached to the unit.
No injuries have been reported, according to the CPSC. Generac has received 114 reports of fuel leaks.
The generators were sold at home improvement and hardware stores nationwide, including Home Depot and Lowe's, as well as online. They were available from May 2025 through February 2026 for between $600 and $1,300.
Customers are being told to stop using the generators immediately and check Generac's recall website to see if their generator is affected. If a unit is included in the recall and has not yet been filled with fuel or has shown signs of leakage, consumers should contact a dealer to arrange a free repair.
