Turmoil in the Middle East has boosted gas prices about 30 cents per gallon in the past two weeks, ConnecticutGasPrices.com reports. And Wilton residents like Linda Schmidt arent happy.
They are absolutely outrageous, she said as she filled her tank at the Citgo station on Route 7. Hopefully, it will correct itself soon.
To cut back on mileage, Schmidt tries to carefully plan out her errands so they are all near one another.
Virginia Gunther has been watching state government to see what steps are being taken for more efficient vehicles. Meanwhile, though, shell keep paying the high prices because she has to get to work.
I need my car to commute to work, I have no choice, Gunther says.
While Gunther complained about her commute, Ken Hendricks was thankful for his. Hendricks said he used to have a 30-minute drive, but changed jobs a couple of years ago and now only has to drive to Norwalk.
My gas lasts longer, but its still expensive, Hendricks said as he cleaned his windshield.
Wiltonians will also see the effects of gas and oil prices on their tax bills. Sarah Taffel, the towns director of human resources, labor relations and administrative services, estimated the town will pay 15 percent more this year for oil. However, the price she received from the distributor was $95,000 more than her estimation, causing the Board of Selectmen to raise proposed spending from about 4.1 percent to 4.5 percent.
