Garrison's Boscobel Expands Children's Programs In 2015

PUTNAM, N.Y. – Boscobel House & Gardens, a historic site in Garrison, has expanded the activities available for children during 2015, which will include an exceptional learning experience as well as a challenge.

Boscobel’s museum educator, Lisa DiMarzo, is busy preparing for the new season. “We introduced several new programs for young families and school groups last year. For 2015, we are expanding that roster to include activities for Scouts, homeschoolers and daycampers,” DiMarzo said.

Starting in April and continuing through August, numerous entertaining and educational opportunities will be available. Space is limited for some programs, but registration is already open, so consider reserving your spot now. After April 1, more details can be found at Boscobel.org.

Some of the events include:

  • Hands-on Boscobel for Homeschoolers offers family learners the chance to participate in an array of activities. Program includes a guided mansion tour, hands-on activities and all-day access to grounds and trails. The event is for children ages 3 to 12 and will take place on Thursday, April 23, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The cost is $5 per child and $8 per adult. Contact Ed Glisson to register.
  • The Stars Come Out at Boscobel – 2 Starlab events will be held on Saturdays, May 9 and Aug. 1, at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and noon. The event is for ages 4 and up (not appropriate for children under 4) and costs $8 per person. Space is limited (20 per class). Purchase tickets after April 1 at Boscobel.org.
  • Rhyme Time by The Hudson, for children ages 1 to 5, accompanied by an adult. Sessions will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. on the following days in the Pavilion: Spring I, Thursdays, June 11 and 18; Spring II, Fridays, June 12, 19 and 26; Summer, Fridays, Aug. 7, 14 and 21; Fall I, Fridays, Sept. 11, 18 and 25; and Fall II, Fridays, Oct. 9, 16 and 23. The fee for two members (child/adult) is $30 per session; cost for nonmembers is $45 per session and $15 per session for each additional child. Space is limited (12 children with adults).
