Gardner Chosen To Serve Again

For Wilton Republicans, change was not in the cards. They elected Tina Gardner registrar of voters for an eighth term on Tuesday. "I have full confidence in the Republican Voters of Wilton," Gardner said Tuesday before the results were in.

In May, Republicans endorsed Mary Arbisi over Gardner. The incumbent petitioned, got her name on the primary ballot and defeated Arbisi, 755-510.

Besides the Republican Registrar there were 11 other elections decided on Tuesday.

On the Democrat side Wiltonians favored party-endorsed candidates over challengers. Dan Malloy won over Ned Lamont, 442-330 for the gubernatorial nod. Nancy Wyman kept Mary Messina Glassman at bay winning, 502-250. The town chose Denise Merrill to run for Secretary of the State, beating Gerry Garcia, 486-240. Kevin Lembo blew out Michael Jarjura, 529-187 in Wilton.

Besides the registrar vote, Republicans also followed the party endorsement except for the representative in congress, where Rob Merkle outvoted both Dan Debicella and Rick Torres, 643-445-138.Those results are not surprising because Wilton RTC Chairman Al Alper ran Merkle's campaign.

Tom Foley had more support in Wilton than Michael Fedele and Oz Griebel for the governor's nomination, 679-485-85. For Lieutenant Governor, Wiltonians favored Mark Boughton, 638-515 over Lisa Wilson-Foley. For the U.S. Senate seat Linda McMahon defeated Peter Schiff and Rob Simmons in Wilton. Martha Dean had more support for the Attorney General nomination than Ross Gerber, 728-399.

According to the head moderator's 26 percent of registered Democrats and just fewer than 31 percent of registered Republicans came out to vote. Both felt that having the Registrar race was the cause for more Republicans voting.
